Hands-on making sessions in Buckfastleigh, Devon. Build useful, open-source devices for growing, energy and everyday life, designed from the first screw to be fixed, not thrown away. No experience needed.
Most of the gadgets we rely on are sealed, glued and impossible to fix. When they fail, we throw them away and buy another.
At icanmakethat, you build your own instead: real, useful devices from open-source designs, using simple, easily sourced parts. You leave with something that works, and the understanding to keep it working.
Sessions are hands-on and friendly. You don't need to know anything about electronics, 3D printing or code before you start. We'll show you, and you'll do it yourself.
We're working towards collaboration with local repair initiatives, so the things you make and the things you mend can support each other.
Records temperature and humidity so you can see what your plants actually go through, day and night.
GrowersShows how much power a small 12V system is making, storing and using.
Off-gridTells you when beds really need watering, so you water less and grow more.
GrowersWarns you when a tank, butt or ditch is getting too high or too low.
Home and landSupply chains, energy and weather are all getting less predictable. Systems built to be as efficient as possible tend to break when conditions change.
Communities cope better when people can make, adapt and repair what they need, and know who nearby can help. We think of these skills as local infrastructure, as useful as a good tool shed.
Let's build a robust and resilient future, together. It's practical, sociable and quite a lot of fun.
Tell us what you'd like to make. It helps us choose our first projects.
